SHOULD WE CLAMP DOWN ON OUR GREEDY MPS?

Saturday May 24,2008

TAXPAYERS have paid a staggering £6,000 for redecorating Gordon Brown’s kitchen and bedroom, new figures have revealed.

The supposedly “prudent” Prime Minister also used your hard-earned cash to fund his satellite TV bills and buy him more than £200 worth of food a month. He even claimed £15 for lightbulbs!

Former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott pocketed £7,000 in expenses for sprucing up his mock Tudor mansion in Hull. Close Blair ally Peter Mandelson claimed nearly £3,000 to revamp a bathrooom.

And former Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett claimed a staggering total of £12,170 for house repairs!

It explains why MPs waged a three-year, £100,000 legal battle to try to keep the records secret.

But what do YOU think?

Is this just a perk of the job, something MPs, who only earn a basic salary of £62,000, need to survive?

Or is this an outrageous abuse of power?
