NEWCASTLE midfielder Joey Barton was today jailed for six months at after admitting charges of assault and affray in relation to a confrontation outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Liverpool last year.


The former Manchester City captain was arrested in Liverpool city centre on the 27th December.


The 25-year-old admitted the charges last month and was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court today.


Should footballers be setting a better example to youngsters?


Is the sentence too lenient?


Should Newcastle make an example of Barton and get rid of him?
