FLAPPERS ARE BACK

Monday April 7,2008

KICK up those heels and prepare to sparkle because the Twenties are in vogue again, says Lara Myall.

Fashion has recaptured the spirit of the Roaring Twenties as high waistbands are cast aside in favour of relaxed, dropped-waist styles.

On the catwalks, John Galliano focused on Charleston-inspired dresses resplendent with frills and beading and sequinned skull caps.

Nina Ricci dabbled in the decade with dropped-waist mini-dresses worn with feather boas and headpieces. Kenzo updated the flapper dress with fringed hems while Anna Sui revived the cabaret style with floor-length beaded dresses embellished with feathers.

The easiest way to wear the style is to opt for a sporty, dropped-waist dress and an elegant straw cloche.

For the evening glam up your look with some serious sparkle. Accessorise with a cluster of diamante hair grips, a heavily beaded bag and metallic dancing shoes.
