IS MICHAEL LYONS RIGHT FOR THE BBC?

Friday April 6,2007

THE new head of the BBC began his reign yesterday by admitting that he seemed to lack one important qualification.

Sir Michael Lyons, £140,000-a-year BBC chairman, confessed he doesn’t watch much television. He then named some of the programmes he had seen recently - on rival channels.

The one-time Labour councillor and former local authority chief has little experience in broadcasting and has appointment after a secretive interviewing process has sparked charges of cronyism against the Government.

So do you think this is the right man for the job? Can somebody who doesn't watch much television be head of the BBC? Where do you see the channel's future?
