SHOULD WE DIVIDE MUSLIM AND CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS?Thursday April 5,2007 TEACHERS’ leaders have attacked a “divisive” plan to set up Britain’s first Muslim city academy. A website giving details of the taxpayer-funded initiative says the school would be “primarily Muslim faith-based” but would be open to children of all religions, backgrounds and abilities.
However, a leading figure from the National Union of Teachers said the idea was at odds with the Government’s aim to unite religious communities across the country. The proposed academy – in Bradford, West Yorks – would be named the Marmaduke Pickthall Academy for Boys after a scholar who converted to Islam. *But what do YOU think? Should we divide Muslim and Christian schools? Have YOUR say. |
