WOMAN SHOT DEAD BY POLICE NAMED

Tuesday June 12,2007

Investigators have named the woman shot dead by armed police following a stand-off in a department store car park.

Ann Sanderson, 37, was killed by officers investigating reports of a woman with a gun in Sevenoaks, Kent, in the early hours of Monday.

A post-mortem examination will take place later on Tuesday, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said.

On Tuesday IPCC officers were continuing their investigation into the shooting, led by deputy senior investigator Bill Stone.

Forensic experts have been combing the car park of M & Co, a department store based in the High Street. A single, anonymous floral tribute was left at the spot where Ms Sanderson, of Bethel Road, Sevenoaks, died.

The IPCC said a firearm was recovered at the scene, but would not comment further on exactly what it was.

However, a police officer was seen carrying what looked like a cartridge of plastic toy gun pellets in a transparent evidence bag away from the scene on Monday.

The small ball-shaped pellets are commonly used in guns known as BB guns, which are often extremely realistic.

Prior to the shooting, the only woman to have been shot dead by police since 1980 was 16-year-old Gail Kinchin.

She was accidentally killed that year by West Midlands police while she was being held hostage.

WOMAN SHOT DEAD BY POLICE

13.06.07, 8:23am

The Police were well aware of this woman, her background and her behaviour over a number of years. In addition they must have known it was an imitation gun because she she had been going around town shooting at windows and CCTV cameras and she could NOT have done this with a REAL gun without creating a substantial amount of damage. (If they hadn't checked they should have)
Another case of a trigger happy policeman I'm afraid.

SEX OR RACE ARE IRELLEVANT!

Deadly weapons must be taken seriously and if that means deadly force then so be it, I do not find the idea of being shot by a madwoman any more palatable than being shot by a madman!

You do the crime you do the time, you threaten anyones life and you may lose your own, TOUGH!

POLICE WILL BE SCRUTINISED AND CENSURED BY ARMCHAIR COPPERS

12.06.07, 3:09pm

Once again the police are placed under scrutiny by armchair coppers. The fact that this woman was threatening the lives of the police and public is just reason to react as the police did. The after fact, the weapon was a replica bear now measure or weight; a replica is near impossible to distinguish from the actual weapon.
This woman, obviously, had mental-health issues. The blame for her demise, however, should not be laid at the feet of the police. She, whether mentally-ill or not, threatened the lives of the police and public and ended paying the price, in full. This is a harsh and unfortunate reality but true. Furthermore, I (as surely many others are, too), am tired of hearing about officers being unnecessarily, killed in the line-of-duty.
