PARIS SOBS IN HER CELL AS SHERIFF INSISTS HE WAS RIGHT TO FREE HER

Paris Hilton on her way to the MTV Movie Awards a week ago

Sunday June 10,2007

By Mike Parker

HEIRESS Paris Hilton sobbed non-stop in a grim jail hospital yesterday, after being taken screaming from a Los Angeles court to finish her sentence.

Instead of returning to her single cell, the distraught heiress was on round-the-clock surveillance and suicide watch, after being examined by a jail psychiatrist and medical staff.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, who caused uproar by releasing her after only three days, said, in an open attack on the judge, that he believed her initial sentence was “inappropriate”.

Baca, an elected city official, added: “The minute I was informed by the doctors about her medical condition, I realised the system was not able to respond effectively to these problems.

He refused to say exactly what her “condition” is. But he added: “This lady has some severe problems. We will watch her behaviour, so there isn’t anything that is harmfully done to herself, by herself.”

Paris, 26, is expected to return today or tomorrow to the Century Regional detention centre in Lynwood, after mental and medical assessment at the notorious Twin Towers jail in downtown Los Angeles.

One of the jail staff said: “She hasn’t stopped wailing since they brought her in. She’s crying so hard, she’s almost convulsing. You’ve got to feel pity for her.”

Among more than 4,000 male and female inmates in the chronically-overcrowded jail are murderers, rapists, drug dealers and street gangsters.

Paris, star of the Simple Life reality TV show, is not even the biggest “celebrity” there. That dubious honour is reserved for recently convicted serial killer Chester Turner, who is awaiting a move to death row in another jail after being convicted of strangling ten women, most of them crack-addicted hookers. Last night, a Hilton family friend said: “She’s there because they have better medical facilities than Lynwood – but everyone wants her out of there as quickly as possible.”

Her arrival at Twin Towers followed a day of circus-like high drama, which began when she was hauled before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer, in handcuffs.

He was furious over Sheriff Baca’s decision to free her after less than 72 hours “on medical grounds” and refused to allow her to take part in Friday’s court hearing by phone, from her Hollywood Hills mansion.

Instead, he sent a posse of sheriff’s deputies in three cars to collect her. Throughout a 90-minute hearing, the dishevelled star, wearing no makeup, was physically shaking.

Several times, she turned to her mother Kathy, less than three feet away, and mouthed the words, “I love you”.

When Judge Sauer finally told her he was overturning Sheriff Baca’s decision to free her, and sending her back to jail, Paris screamed: “No! It’s not right.” As tears streamed down her face, she turned to Kathy, who was also sobbing, and shrieked: “Mom!”

Court officials confirmed later that she is still likely to serve only half her 45-day sentence for breaching probation by driving while disqualified, after an earlier drink-related reckless-
driving conviction.

Paris, who was “reassigned” to house arrest by Sheriff Baca in the early hours of Thursday, spent little over a day back at the mansion she shares with sister Nicky on West Hollywood’s winding Kings Road.

Friends said she had been planning a coming-home party – and just hours after her release ordered 100 cup cakes from a Beverly Hills bakery, most of which were distributed to  photographers outside her front gate.

But Baca’s decision to spring Paris early – based on psychiatric reports by Dr Charles Sophy at Lynwood – provoked uproar.

Jail supervisor Mike Antonovich said: “Where’s the fairness? This sends a strong message to our youth that you can flout the law if you have money and fame.”

Television political chat-show host Bill O’Reilly said: “The moment Paris was sentenced, the fix went in. Baca was determined she was a problem he did not want – so he cut her loose.”

Judge Sauer agreed, saying he had been presented with “no evidence,” medical or otherwise, to justify her release.
Last night, a source close to Paris family said: “She is in a terrible state. This’ll kill her.”

PARIS SOBS IN HER CELL AS SHERIFF INSISTS HE WAS RIGHT TO FREE HER

11.06.07, 9:11am

Although I feel sorry for her, "the show must go on".
Nobody like to hear the word "No", in her case it has taken longer than most to hear it.
Guess the sheriff won't be receiving any more contributions to his election fund from the Hiltons after this.

OFF TOPIC SLIGHTLY

11.06.07, 8:59am

OK, it’s ‘off topic’ slightly but I found the photo’s of the sheriff in his uniform somewhat amusing.

Talk about delusions of grandeur, the fact that he has five stars on his collar makes it look as though he is trying to convey that he has the power of a five star general - which is the highest rank in the American Armed Forces!

PRISON - NO DIFFERENT IN LA THAN WORMWOOD SCRUBS, LONDON

10.06.07, 5:27pm

Prisons are prisons. They are not "rehabs" or resorts to "think over the error of your ways." Hilton violated her probation. She had the chance to think things over. She chose not to. Driving on an expired licence and drunk can get you in prison fast and they don't change the decor or decorate cells before you arrive no matter what your "celebrity" status. Any jail is grim ... best stay out of there!

Celebrity? This girl is a walking disaster. Celebrated for what? She's the poster girl for bad behavior. Unfortunately, many are following her example. She went one to far in Los Angeles and the cops there nailed her. As did the judge. And rightly so. Better Hilton wailing in prison, than the family of a victim of drunk driving - Hilton's. Drunk drivers kill. Celebrity notwithstanding!

Here in the US - same as in the UK - you do the crime, you do the time.

The judge wrote clearly on his order: no house arrest, prison, 45 days reduced to 23. Lucky Hilton. Others do the full time.

Strange how Hilton does whatever she wants - she even has a photograph wearing a T-shirt which states "I do whatever I want" - she could care less. Until that is a judge in court says "So far and no further! Enough!" and then Hilton cries out to Mom, screams in fact. Reality time. Her mother should have given her the same advice as Judge Sauer - and long ago.

I don't feel at all sorry for this pitiful whiner. I am glad she didn't kill anyone weaving all over the road in her Mercedes Bentz.

Maybe she will get a reality check in jail at the same time as her medical check up. Fact is, glad to say, she isn't checking out of anywhere. Thank goodness! If one life has been saved from this out-of-control brat, then kudos are due this no-nonsense judge. We need more like him.

PARIS SOBS.....

10.06.07, 3:34pm

Oh, please enough already......This pathetic girl is having a breakdown because of the enormous cultural shock that has enveloped her. Of course she is a spoiled brat. That much be obvious to all. Marie Antoinette's experience was similar. The difference was she had backbone and dignity. She thanked the executioner before he lopped off her head..

PARIS IS SUFFERING FROM SELF-ABSORPTION, NARCISSISM.

10.06.07, 12:01pm

Paris Hilton needed a good smack on her bottom years ago. She is the by-product of her opulence and the proverbial silver spoon (now, surely, some other precious metal) upbringing. I believe she, as do many others of her and our culture, suffers from a deep-rooted, narcissistic disorder.
Poor Paris is now wallowing, whining and whinging, whilst blaming everyone else, but herself, for countless flaws.
This “girl” will never evolve into a “mature woman”… in my mind; she represents all that is ugly in American and perhaps western culture. Paris, frighteningly, is not a one-off as she and others may perceive, but one of many, suffering from self-absorption, narcissism.
