TOTE TAKES LEAD IN TV TURF WAR

Story Image

DEAL: The Tote will take images from the racing-owned channel

Monday June 4,2007

A BETTING-shop pictures war could hot up this week with the Tote set to become the first of the big four bookies to sign up to a new racing-owned TV channel showing exclusive live pictures from racecourses.

Major bookmakers the Tote, William Hill, Ladbrokes and Coral have held back from joining many smaller firms taking Turf TV.

It is a joint venture between the UK technology firm Alphameric and 31 racecourses, including Ascot, Aintree, Cheltenham, Epsom and Newmarket. The big four were unhappy about paying for Turf TV content in addition to satellite information services (SIS).

SIS had been the exclusive supplier of televised racing to licensed betting shops in the UK and Ireland.
It is understood the Tote has struck a discounted deal for Turf TV.
