SNACKING ON M-WAY IS TREBLE THE PRICE
MOTORWAY service stations are charging up to three times as much as High Street shops, for similar products.
And campaigners are urging motorists who want to save money to stock up in advance.
The Daily Express checked prices of popular food and drink at three service stations.
A 500ml bottle of mineral water cost £1.39 – against 44p in a Birmingham city centre shop. A 500ml bottle of Coca Cola was £1.39 to £1.45, compared with 90p on the High Street.
A large tube of Pringles was £2, against £1.44. A Mars Bar Duo was 69p, against 52p. And an egg and cress sandwich was £2.29 to £2.79, compared with the High Street 77p.
Paul Meyer, of the Rip-off Britain group, said: “People are idiots if they shop at these places. If they didn’t, operators would bring their prices down.”
But a spokesman for one service station chain, Moto Hospitality, said: “We do not believe that the comparison between a motorway service area and a High Street retailer is fair.
“Service areas are obliged by law to open around the clock every day of the year. No other food retailer is under a similar legal obligation.”

The services will be shutting down soon anyway, when pay as you drive is brought in! It will be cheaper to go to Florida, than visit my elderly relatives in Cornwall !!

THEY DO NOT CALL IT EASY TARGET BRITAIN FOR NOTHING!
29.05.07, 10:43am
You are on a motorway with no choice or are elderly or disabled and cannot go further than the local shop, then thats it mate you are an easy target in Britain.
Not to worry though if you are British and white then you are an even easier target because you are a third rate citizen in your own country.
If you want to be the easiest target then you smoke and pay 75% tax, drive and pay 75% tax or work hard and give them almost 60% of everything.

TRY STOPPING OVERNIGHT IN A LORRY!!!
29.05.07, 8:47am
So who's the joker at Moto Hospitality, who reckons "services" are open 24 hours a day?? --If the Daily Express thinks prices are high, you should park up a lorry overnight, and try getting a shower the next morning!! As to "Mr Moto's" claims -- does he think no-one travels at night then? Most of the services are closed after 2200hrs, or with a severely reduced choice. So when i park up in the lorry, pay the extortionate parking fee, get my meal voucher - then find i have to walk over the bridge to the other side that is open, then find a cup of tea is NOT INCLUDED in the voucher!! Oh, ANOTHER £1.85p to pay! SIXTY WAGONS parked up, all leaving within 90mins of each other -- and what do you find?? ---- ONE shower - and you are lucky if that gives hot water!!
