CALL FOR UK GLOBAL WARMING FUNDING

Tuesday May 29,2007

Britain must provide developing countries an extra £1.2 billion to deal with the effects of its contribution to global warming, a leading aid charity has demanded.

Despite being the biggest global contributor to so-called "adaptation" funds, the UK is still paying only a tiny fraction of the contribution it should, according to Oxfam.

It pointed out that the total pledged by all rich countries was only about half the £178 million allocated by ministers for cooling systems to climate-change proof the London Underground.

Ahead of next month's G8 summit in Germany, Oxfam calculated that the group of richest nations owed 80% of the £25.2 billion needed to help the poorest deal with the impact.

Experts say 250 million people in Africa could face water shortages in Africa by 2020 as a result of global warming at the same time as billions are put at risk of flooding in Asia.

Britain's share of the cost - calculated by Oxfam on the basis of emissions from 1992 to 2003 and ability to pay - is more than 5%, or £1.3 billion.

So far it has contributed £20 million, more than any other country including the USA - which should be responsible, according to the report, for a massive 44% of the cost.

"Rich countries are already making huge investments at home to adapt to climate change - so they know the scale of the problem. But they are stalling when it comes to providing money for poorer countries to do the same," said Kate Raworth, Oxfam senior researcher and author of the report.

"Developing countries cannot and should not be expected to foot the bill for the impact of rich countries' emissions. Justice demands that rich countries pay for the harm already being caused to those who are least responsible for the problem.

"But it's also crucial in building the trust between nations essential for the success of any truly global agreement to tackle climate change."

GLOBAL WARMING

29.05.07, 7:24pm

There are two big lies being pushed by the United Nations through the IPCC
a) Carbon Dioxide levels are at an all time high
b) The last century (1900s) was the warmest ever.

Well, a) is wrong. There are CO2 measurements going back to the mid 1800s which show that CO2 levels have changed very little. This was before Exxon was even invented! These measurements were made all over Europe including at Kew, and are easily verifiable if any one cares to. But watch out, there will be a book burning soon of these "Inconvenient Truths"!
The sham data from ice core samples has been discredited by Dr Zbigniew Jaworowski. You can Google his name for further info.

b) is wrong as we well know, the medieval warming period was equally as warm as now, followed by a mini ice age in the 1400s. So what caused that warm spell if CO2 was lower than now?

NICE LITTLE EARNER!

29.05.07, 3:41pm

And where does the £10 tax per person on almost all UK flights go, on some global warming project? the hell it does! it goes straight into the treasury. Global warming is the biggest con this century, climate change/global warming started on the day the world first evolved. Nothing and no one can stop it, the only exception is this government, they tax us on it!

GLOBAL WARMING FUNDING

29.05.07, 7:30am

All very well but the rich no they will get the money back in other ways and you won’t, “environmental” taxation in more ways than one has become the mainstay of the labour party policies, and it’s a big earner for the chancellor taxing your environment in as many ways as they can think of, because they know you have need of it and use it all the time. Do em a thick en… stop buying crap and buy your own home instead and stay in your home more with your family and children and watch their policies change…. They can’t touch you for it? In fact they will be giving you incentives to come out side and create problems.
