NURSE QUITS AFTER TIRADE AT PATIENT

Monday May 28,2007

A nurse has resigned after telling a heart attack patient that he had no right to complain about being left lying in urine for two hours on a trolley, it has emerged.

Mark Wright, 39, was shocked when the nurse refused to listen to his concerns and started screaming abuse at him in front of other patients at Weston General Hospital, in Somerset.

He had been admitted to the hospital after suffering severe chest pains, but was left on a trolley for two hours before being moved to a general ward for tests.

The father-of-one described the conditions there as filthy and was told he would only be examined the next morning when he complained of further pains during the night.

He and six other patients wrote a letter of complaint about their poor treatment, using a form given to them by the hospital.

But the next day, the nurse confronted him about the complaint and launched into a foul-mouthed tirade as he was having his blood pressure taken.

"She said 'you've got no f****** right talking to me like that, no f****** right to be complaining'," he told the Bristol Evening Post.

"She said she was going to retire in a few days, and the complaint would affect her pension.

"It was in front of all the other patients. I was gobsmacked. It was like a Carry On Film."

Mr Wright, a transport manager from Weston-super-Mare, was admitted to hospital on March 25, suffering from agonising pains in his chest. The nurse was later told her actions amounted to gross misconduct and resigned.

WE ALSO HAVE GOOD PATIENTS AND BAD PATIENTS!

28.05.07, 8:47pm

Svum that drink and eat to much and waste everyones time with gut ache, this dying heart attack victim recovered quick enough to talk to the press.

We will never know but I think bad patients outnumber bad nurses in my personal experience its been at least ten bad patients to one bad nurse.

FRUSTRATED NURSE!

28.05.07, 4:01pm

It sounds to me that the nurse in question may have finally "lost it" after enduring years of abuse from the drunken slobs who attend the
A & I after a night of binge drinking and fighting. We didn't hear "the nurse's side of the story which may also have made compelling reading.
I also suffered a heart attack six years ago and was admitted to a south Manchesters hospital which specialises in Cardiac disorders and was treated with the utmost kindness and respect by all members of staff. I have also received absolutely first class and faultless follow up treatment at my local medical centre ever since. I remember the "birth" of the National Health Service after the last war and it has since been the greatest asset this country has ever known. It absolutely sickens me when I see and hear of these abuses to hospital staff who devote their lives to our health and welfare!

NURSE'S ABUSIVE ATATCK ON PATIENT...

28.05.07, 3:34pm

This is a horror story from hell. No patient should be left for 2 hours suffering with intense chest pains. It is unheard of. To have to take abuse from a nurse is unimaginable. From the onset of the pain and related symtoms to delivery of the patient to the emergancy room speed is essential. Delay may cause severe damage to the heart muscle requiring extensive surgery. The cardiologist's task is to stabiliize the patient as quickly as possible , assessing the damage and may also include the placing of stents. All this prior to the surgeon's job of performing by-pass heart surgery if necessary. I am very glad I do not have lto witness the kind of unprofessional and dangerous medical abuse mentioned in this article. This patient was certainly in a state of shock and fear and needed a calm and reassuring atmosphere. The nurse in question requires severe repremanding. A possible law suit against her and the hospital could be the result..

HAVING SEEN SOME OF THE SCUMBAGS NURSES REGULARLY HAVE TO DEAL WITH!

28.05.07, 12:23pm

I am surprised this is not a regular occurrence, did they complain about the management or the cleaners or were the nurses on the front line the target of the abuse yet again!
