MOVIE stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are to appear in a film together for the first time since Titanic.

The pair will play a young married couple with two children struggling to achieve the “American dream” in the drama Revolutionary Road, set in 1950s Connecticut.

Their reunion comes 10 years after Titanic sailed into Hollywood record books with worldwide box office receipts of $1.6billion. The film also went on to win 10 Oscars.

The BBC is one of three co-producers of the new film, which will be released next year and distributed by Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks SKG studio, which was instrumental in reuniting the two stars.

Winslet’s husband, film director Sam Mendes – whose recent hits include Jarhead, American Beauty and Road to Perdition, also helped to broker the deal.

DiCaprio and Winslet are expected to join a strong cast, including Kathy Bates, on location in the next week.

Shooting has already begun in New York and Stamford, Connecticut.

From the moment Jack Dawson’s hand slipped out of Rose’s and he sank to a watery grave in one of Titanic’s  memorable final scenes, cinemagoers have been clamouring for the two to be reunited.

This time, however, instead of a poignant ending to the fairytale romance, DiCaprio and Winslet’s characters, Frank and April Wheeler, are torn apart by deceit and betrayal.

A senior member of production staff told the Sunday Express: “This time the match made in heaven very quickly plunges towards a living hell.

“The cast and crew can’t wait to see how Leo and Kate play off one another this time around.”

The pair’s pay cheques for Revolutionary Road have not been revealed but industry experts estimate that DiCaprio, 32, will bank at least $12million and Winslet, 31, will make up to $10million from the big-budget film.

“Both jumped at the chance to hook-up again,” said the source.
