CIVIL LIBERTIES PRIORITY WRONG - PM

Sunday May 27,2007

Tony Blair has hit out at the "dangerous misjudgment" of putting civil liberties before fighting terror.

He spoke out as it emerged tough new "stop and question" powers may be given to the police as part of a new anti-terror package.

He insisted the disappearance of three suspects under control orders was not the fault of the Home Office but society's "misguided and wrong" priorities.

Writing in the Sunday Times, he said: "The fault is not with our services or, in this instance, with the Home Office.

"We have chosen as a society to put the civil liberties of the suspect, even if a foreign national, first.

"I happen to believe this is misguided and wrong."

He went on: "Over the past five or six years we have decided as a country that except in the most limited of ways, the threat to our public safety does not justify changing radically the legal basis on which we confront this extremism.

"Their right to traditional civil liberties comes first. I believe this is a dangerous misjudgment."

CIVIL LIBERTIES

27.05.07, 11:50am

"We have chosen as a society to put the civil liberties of the suspect, even if a foreign national, first. What’s all this WE! Mr Blair, like I keep saying and I will keep on saying; decent working class people in this country are being manipulated, used and messed about with all the time by a bunch of Shiite Hawks at the top, Arse-holes in the middle and Scum bags at the bottom. The only reason we have terror is because of their policies of anti civil liberties regarding not allowing the country to have a vote on things. We don’t need or want our elected leaders or authorities starting fires and fanning the flames for personal and privatisation benefit, and then when it gets to hot making excuses and saying its all OUR! Fault, O’YEY sorry it is my fault for being deceived by a self centred, greedy two faced capitalist idiot and his chums making chumps out of everyone else. I never wanted this continuing eastern war campaign and I don’t want Brown running this country either. I want my Country back ENGLAND with its own parliament, a country filled with decent hard working people who have the sense to realise the importance of following the 7 primes so that all our children can build a decent life and feel like they are part of something worthwhile and belonging something special, and none of Browns so called amazing fiscal policies are going to do that, the only amazing thing I can see is how the general public can keep on falling for all this crap, it must have something to do with that saying, I’m all right Jack…well my name is not Jack (flag or union). VOTE EDP.

LABOUR ARE NOT LISTENING

27.05.07, 9:46am

Typical. If you took a survey about this asking this very question, most Britons (who are law abiding) would have no issue with tough laws and cracking down far harder than has been the case. In fact we've been asking for it for several years and much longer and the government has been ignorant.

Labour are responsible for human rights laws opting in and opting out

Labour are responsible for allowing softer punishment in schools, give an i-pod away if your naughty

Labour are responsible for continuing policies on soft prison sentences

Labour are responsible for our law system and its releasing crims on the streets.

Ultimately they are the government, they should dictate the law and rules. Blair was PM. The bucks stops with them and him.

Blair has to be one of our worse PM's ever when you look at pensions, bloated government, health failures, immigration, faffing with education, iraq, backdoor revenue schemes, countryside, corporal punishments, crime.

A poor 10 years.

CIVIL LIBERTIES WRONG - BLIAR.

27.05.07, 9:20am

Yes Tone, you are correct once in your 10 year reign as Chairman Bliar, not a bad record is it.
You cannot blame anyone else for putting the Civil Rights of scumbags first because you are the captain of the sinking ship which embraced the stupid dangerous act, the buck stops with YOU. Everyone of us hoi polloi has said right from the onset of your act that it was wholly flawed and wrong, why have you never listened to the electorate.
We do not care who is upset with hurt feelings about being searched and questioned as long an lives are saved and terrorists and scumbags brought to justice.
Do please stop these deadly offenders from roaming our streets when once caught, lock them up until their trial.
The civil liberties of ordinary respectable, decent law abiding citizens comes first.
You owe us this much at least.
Goodbye and good riddance.

WHO DISTURBED HIS SLEEP?

27.05.07, 9:14am

This statement is up there with Jim Callaghan's "crisis? what crisis?" I think when Bliar signed our civil liberties away he honestly thought he was signing an autograph! Its no wonder this man needs security around him, they should go all the way and lock him up!

AHHHH, SO IT’S OUR FAULT.....

27.05.07, 7:57am

Ahhhh, so it’s our fault (society) that three terror suspects have disappeared! Quote: “We have chosen as a society….” and “…we have decided as a country…”Oh, did I miss the day that I was asked for my opinion regarding the civil liberties of terror suspects? Whew, I’m glad that has been cleared up as I honestly thought it was the governments and the Home Offices fault for allowing all and sundry to enter the country with little on no control of who they are, where there are, why they are here or what they are doing! MY GOD! WHERE DOES THIS MAN GET HIS IDEA’S FROM AND/OR THE PURE UNADULTERATED GALL OF THE MAN FOR TRYING TO BLAME US, SOCIETY, FOR HIS MISTAKES! Mr Blair, I suggest that you depart government and this country as soon as possible and take your pathetic excuse for a government with you – NOW!

WHO'S MISTAKE?

27.05.07, 6:32am

As is the norm with this government, President Blair is putting the blame on us for his mistakes....! His statement blames "our society" for the civil liberty mistakes that he has implemented.

I think our mistake was electing Him!
