POLL PUTS MORE PRESSURE ON CAMPBELL

Sir Menzies Campbell under new pressure following poll result

Saturday May 26,2007

Sir Menzies Campbell was under new pressure as a poll showed just 41% of Liberal Democrat supporters believed he was doing a good job as party leader.

The YouGov survey for the Daily Telegraph also saw his party's score drop three points to 15% while the Tories gained two to 39% and Labour went up one to 33%.

Sir Menzies was forced to shrug off reports of unrest among party members last week in the wake of a poll showing most wanted someone else to fight the next general election.

He had already helped fuel speculation by declaring repeatedly that he would not quit after conceding that disappointing election results in Scotland, Wales and England were a "mixed bag".

The new poll shows a third do not believe he is doing a good job and more than a quarter (26%) are undecided well into Sir Menzies' second year in charge after succeeding the deposed Charles Kennedy.

And when it comes to leading the country, just 6% of all voters think he would be the best option.

His spokeswoman said: "Polls go up and down; what this sort of thing shows is that people do not yet know Ming."

The poll contained some good news for Gordon Brown, who has narrowed the gap between his rating and Tory leader David Cameron's from 10 points in April to just three (41% to 38%).

YouGov polled 2,050 voters across the country between May 21 and 23.

OCH I THE NOO CAMBELL

27.05.07, 5:34pm

Feel I must respond to "CAN" when she says she wants Kennedy back. Isn't it time that we English had our own Parlaiment run by our own
English MP's and at the same time close down the other House which is full of doddery old none elected Saboteurs who only attend the House of Lords to have a KIP! But to get back to my friend "CAN", how do you mean by "not waste your vote on UKIP or the BNP"? when they are the only two parties prepared to stand up for our rights, supportive of the British way of life and unlike all the other parties are prepared to do something about this plague of Migrants! Wasted vote indeed, get that "X" down where it matters next time round!

YES, DUMP HIM BUT DON'T BRING BACK KENNEDY.

So 41% think Menzies Campbell is ' doing a good job '
Helloo, the idea is to have someone electable isn't it, or are they happy just to be an irritant to other parties ?
In this day & age presentation is everything, Blair had it Cameron has it, Campbell comes nowhere near them , he is old school & too autocratic, plus the day for Scottish leaders in England is on the wane , send him to his own country for a job.
No amount of makeovers will improve him, the party members must look for a completely fresh face & look forward.

DUMP HIM AND BRING BACK CHARLES KENNEDY

26.05.07, 8:39pm

I would never vote for Labour or Nu Labour, nor for the conservative party I allways supported as Cameron is a waste of space, about to get rid of one BLiar so don't need a photocopy of him, the lib dems stood a chane but not with the leader they have, can't even use a normal name, bring back Charles Kennedy and I may give you my vote insted of wasting it on BNP or UKIP.
