Mr Justice Collins said in the High Court that giving people anonymity does not seem to have helped police stop them absconding.

He lifted the ban on naming Bestun Salim, an Iraqi accused of links to insurgents, who was the first person to disappear while under an order.

The Judge also revealed that it was he who removed anonymity orders on the three terror suspects who disappeared earlier this week.

Cerie Bullivant, 24, and brothers Lamine, 26, and Ibrahim Adam, 20, are among the most most wanted men in the country after vanishing from their homes.

A further two suspected of involvement in terrorism remain anonymous and on the run after fleeing from the requirements of their orders.

One of them, known only as AD, who escaped from a mental health unit last September, is alleged to have been a friend of British suicide bomber Asif Hanif.

The other man is thought to be a 26-year-old Pakistani living in Manchester, who absconded in January by slipping out the back door of a mosque.

The Judge's decision is the latest twist in the saga of implementing control orders, which have been bombarded with criticism from almost every quarter.

Earlier this week, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said discussions were under way as to whether the remaining absconders should also be named.
