A TEENAGER became the latest victim of Britain’s growing knife culture when he was stabbed to death yesterday just yards from his home.

Sam Brown, 16, died in a “senseless and brutal” attack after his killer plunged a blade into his chest.

Paramedics were called shortly after 4am and discovered the boy slumped on a grassed area on the Grange Park estate in Blackpool. He died before the ambulance reached Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

A 28-year-old man was also found suffering stab wounds at the scene and was taken for treatment. He is in a stable condition after emergency surgery. Police are waiting to interview him.

Last night detectives were attempting to establish why Sam was on the streets at that time. Neighbours said his parents were “friendly, decent people”.

Det Supt Graham Gardener, who is leading the murder hunt, said: “This was a brutal and senseless attack. We are trying to establish why this young man suffered in the way he did.”

Forensic teams were combing the area and hunting for the murder weapon yesterday. Sam lived with his parents and brother in a house 40 yards from the murder scene on the tough council estate.

His death is the latest in a series of knife killings of young men in Britain’s cities and towns.

Last month, a senior judge spoke of the growing “death and devastation” resulting from Britain’s gang and knife culture as he jailed Abu Sarpong, 18, for killing a street rival. Judge Gerald Gordon told the Old Bailey: “It is the carrying and use for minuscule motives of such a knife which is causing death and devastation to families and that has got to stop.”
