ASK THE EXPERTS - PEUGEOTS

Peugeot 207

Thursday March 8,2007

Parker's answers your questions

Q I CAN'T choose between a Peugeot 307 and VW Golf. What do you think?

A THE 307 is larger and taller than the 306 it replaced, well-equipped and won European Car of the Year in 2002, but despite safety improvements, a wide choice of engines and a whole host of special deals, the 307 is just too expensive. New prices rival the Golf - starting at £11,000 - but the cabin is neither as comfortable nor as well proportioned. If it were a choice between the two, plump for the Golf due to its finer handling, better residual values and superior image.

Q I'VE got a Peugeot 206 but I'm intrigued by the new 207. When is it out and how does it differ from its brother?

A THE main difference is that the 207 is bigger, safer and more comfortable than the 206. It has already picked up a five-star Euro NCAP rating. A common complaint about the 206 was its poor driving position, and this seems to have been improved in the 207. Expect to spend around £9,000 for it when it is launched in the summer.

Q How does the new Peugeot 207 vary from the 206?

A The 207 is roomier, better equipped, attractively-styled and comes with strong petrol and diesel engines. It's larger than the 206, inside and out, and there's the option of three or five-door hatchbacks, though an estate and coupe-convertible will arrive later.
It will set you back more, too, with prices starting at around £9,000 brand new, whereas a new 206 costs around £7,500. Unusually, the 207 will succeed but not replace the 206, which is Peugeot's best selling car ever - highlighting its continuing appeal.
