JOBLESS FIGURE UP 13,000 TO 1.7M
Unemployment has increased by 13,000 but the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance has fallen for seven consecutive months, figures show.
The number of people out of work in the three months to March was 1.7 million, the worst figure since last autumn and up by 101,000 over the year.
The claimant count, which only covers people on Jobseeker's Allowance, fell by 15,700 to 890,000, the lowest since October 2005.
It has fallen for nine out of the last 10 months.
Average earnings - including bonuses - increased by 4.5%, down 0.1% on the previous month, which had been the highest since March 2004.
The Office For National Statistics said the fall was prompted by a lower growth in bonuses.
Other data showed that the number of people in work fell by 55,000 over the previous three months but rose by 93,000 over the year to 28.98 million.
In the three months to March, 145,000 people were made redundant, up 15,000 from the previous three months and the highest figure since last spring.
There were 13,000 working days lost due to industrial disputes, a significant rise from the 4,000 days lost in February.
STATISTICS - NO COMMENT!

There are lies, damned lies and then there are STATISTICS! My maths may be getting a bit long in the tooth or maybe I am getting senile but these figures do not add up! Although they say that there was a decrease in the number of people on Job Seekers Allowance could this be because more people are receiving disability allowances etc – you go to your doctor, claim you are depressed at being out of work, get prescribed anti-depressants (of course, you don’t have to take them?!?!) and your claim changes like magic AND you can get more money! By the way, this is not something I have dreamt up as it was suggested to me a few months ago but although I am still looking for work I am not willing to lower myself to that level.

AND ONCE UPON A TIME IN A LAND CALLED THE UK!
16.05.07, 2:28pm
A great magician called Statistic's made figures shrink and the unemployed disappear, was it magic or just an illusion his hand was quicker than the eye!
A million extra disabled claimants join the other queue but surely this is merely coincidence nothing to do with the missing unemployed!
It must be the queue to get on the NHS waiting list we can't let too many onto the waiting list at any one time because Statistic's waved his magic wand and cut that down to size last year!
And the children shouted their warning "Look out Statistic the truth is creeping up behind you!"
And Statistic waved his magic wand and conjured up 10,000 more migrants to fill the 1,700,000 vacancies they did not have and they all lived happy ever after laughing at the stupid British who believed in magic!
THE END......
