WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT SLOUGH'S MIGRANT CHILDREN?

Monday May 14,2007

A FLOOD of Romanian gypsy children has left a British town facing a financial crisis.

Since their poverty-stricken country joined the EU on January 1, nearly 90 youngsters have arrived in Slough pleading for help from town hall bosses.

The children, from the Roma community, arrive unaccompanied by adults – even though some are as young as 10.

Council officials in the Berkshire town said six have even come with babies of their own, while seven were pregnant.
It is thought that the children travelled across Europe alone.

The borough council has so far had to spend £150,000 setting up an emergency team of social workers and housing officers to assist the children.

Most have only the slightest grasp of English, which has forced the council to employ two Roma translators to deal with the influx.

*But what do YOU think? Who do you feel more sorry for - Slough or the children? Is it the town's responsibility or the government's? Should the government give them more of the taxpayer's money to ease the problem? Have YOUR say.

07.08.07, 7:00pm

Slough deserves them, they let the floodgates open years ago. The saying goes "You reap what you sow". Its just a pity that they dont set up in Knightsbridge or Hampstead or Mayfair, bet the would'nt be there long!!!

FLOOD OF ROMA GYPSIES IN SLOUGH

19.05.07, 2:23am

Roma Gypsies are notorious agressive beggers and thieves. I experienced them on the streets of London in 2000. They are also dangerous, they all carry knives. The flood of these primative people into Slough means nothing but trouble for the local residents and will cost the local council dearly. Not only they can't speak English but they are illiterate in their own language even. So what kind of work could they do. Nothing! They don't intend working anyway. So send them all back A.S.A.P.

A FLOOD OF ROMANIAN GYPSY CHILDREN

16.05.07, 8:31pm

First the good news, clothes pegs are abundant and cheap, now the bad news the locals can`t get any sleep because of the flamenco dancers.
Still we need a bit more help in the UK from some hard working foriegners, but what are this lot likely to contribute to the UK economy? answer nothing and who`s going to foot the bill for their board and lodge the tax payer of course. This government should round them up humanely and send them packing back to the place they came from because we have just about had enough of foriegners here it has got way out of hand now.
