England's hopes of beating the current world champions were dashed today

ENGLAND suffered another disappointing loss today in their second test match against world number ones Australia.

The touring squad suffered a 43-33 loss against the Diamonds in Adelaide today, following a narrow defeat in Newcastle, Australia last weekend.

England averaged just 62 per cent shooting accuracy after Rachel Dunn suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter.

Louisa Brownfield swapped to shooter and Tamsin Greenway took her place temporarily as Goal Attack before being replaced at half time by Jo Harten.

With England’s attacking end disordered and struggling against the tight Aussie defence, the Diamonds extended their lead by seven goals in the early stages of the second quarter.

Defenders Sonia Mkoloma and Geva Mentor used their height advantage to capitalise on missed opportunities by the Australian shooters.

But England failed to exploit crucial opportunities throughout the last quarter.

After the match Coach Sue Hawkins said: “What we take away from this series is that we must be tougher and stronger.

“Our game is about ball speed and letting it go and we need confidence about what we can do.”

The touring squad will now move on to New Zealand where they face the Silver Ferns in Auckland on Monday.
