LISTENING IN: Your private phone calls will be monitored at GCHQ

Monday October 6,2008

TODAY we reported that telephone calls, emails and text messages in Britain are to be monitored under new Government snooping plans.

A £12billion identity database at the GCHQ spy centre could even log every website visited by computer users nationwide.

Hundreds of bugging probes will be installed in the telephone system and computer networks to monitor communications traffic.

GCHQ has already been handed £1billion of taxpayers’ cash to begin developing the database, according to top secret plans leaked yesterday.

ARE YOU ANGRY AT THIS SHOCKING INTRUSION?

ITS A BIT RICH ISN'T IT

18.10.08, 11:45pm

Are these the same people who are afraid of devulging details of their second homes incase people find out where they live? Surely privacy should be extended to all of us not to be snooped upon as we go about our daily lives.
They should remember its us who pay their wages, they are the public servants and as their masters we should be laying down the ground rules ,don't you think?

YES LFDM THEY WERE ASYLUM SEEKERS

17.10.08, 7:19am

But in effect they were immigrants showing the asylum seeking card....without it they would not have been allowed to enter the country,
They were not in fear of their lives, they simply wanted a better life for their children, and of course that is what we all want. They certainly did not face death or terror.
Neverthless they dealt a pack of lies to immigration services and they fell for it hook, line, and sinker. These are the only asylum seekers that I know personally and I dont believe for one minute they are the only ones that have duped the authorities and lived on British taxes for years.
Incidentally they do not like living amongst muslims and think we are mad to allow them in to this country. I had to prevent myself from laughing. Very ironic !

MARIGOLD

if, in your anectodal case, the man was not allowed to work, and was being kept by the state, then he was an asylum seeker.

as we have discussed many time before in the past, asylum seekers are not 'immigrants' and the reason for there being here, and the reason for us allowing them to be here, is completely different.

asylum seekers are a humanitarian cause, based on the idea of a belief in human rights. we do not accept them for economic gian, but becasue we believe it is morally wrong to turn away people at the border who may face death or torture.
it is like turning the television volume up when you can hear the child next door being beaten within an inch of his life by his abusive parents.

so, we thing that is wrong and try to help them. who would begrudge that? well, apart form you, apparently.

you also have to remember that asylum seekers make up a small proportion of the intake into this country. so somewhat unfair to dwell upon them and suggest that they are represeantative of the whole immigrant population.

LFDM

16.10.08, 7:36am

He has only just got a job with the council....the last couple of months. So OK he is paying a bit of tax now....but the country kept this family for 5 years until they were awarded British residency. They were not allowed to work during this period....although I know he worked on the side....and obviously paid no taxes.

And I dont blame them. You are wrong that I "pick on people ". I merely quote the cases that I know about.
It is the system that is wrong.
Working people do not want to see their taxes used frivolously or without regard for the pain of earning it.
Not all monies are earned in comfort.
