Joe Kinnear

Another off day for Joe
INTERIM Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear, incensed by reports he had given the players a day off on his first day in charge, blasted the media at his Thursday press conference.
Kinnear let fly with more F-words than celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay believing he had been made to look stupid.
Yes, the players had a day off, but only because he wanted time with his backroom staff.
After his foulmouthed rant had ended no one had the heart to ask not-so-genial Joe where the players were. They were, in fact, on another day off!
Bad to verse
CHELSEA’S warm-up before the Champions League game in Romania last Wednesday was suddenly accompanied by a blaring rendition of a Manchester United supporters’ song.
In addition to songs glorifying the deeds of Andy Cole and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer there was also a banner for all to see, written in perfect English.
It read: “Roses are red, Chelsea are blue, my grandma can take spot kicks better than you.”
Ruud's just Van-tastic!
NEWCASTLE’S Michael Owen might not float Fabio Capello’s boat as a striker – but former Manchester United hitman Ruud van Nistelrooy certainly does.
Asked to name the two hitmen he has most enjoyed working with, the England coach went for Dutchmen Van Nistelrooy and Marco van Basten.
“They were complete forwards,” said Capello. “Good when they shoot, pass and with a capacity to score goals with their head, right foot and left foot in every movement.”
Gringo lingo
SVEN-GORAN ERIKSSON loves life in Mexico and has mastered the language in just two months.
The Swede, already fluent in English, Italian, Portuguese and his native tongue, was determined to get to grips with things both on and off the pitch after his appointment as Mexico boss.
So now Spanish has been added to his languages.
“It’s not just about communicating with the players,” he explained. “It’s also about making friends and reading newspapers.”
