RACINGBECKETT'S FILLY HAS THE WINNING LOOK
Look Here: Classic credentials Sunday September 7,2008 By Chris GouldingLOOK HERE can continue the amazing run of success for Oaks heroins by taking Saturday’s Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster.
The Ralph Beckett-trained filly attempts to follow in the hoof prints of User Friendly, Oh So Sharp, Sun Princess and Dunfermline whocaptured the Oaks en route to Leger glory.
That’s a pretty impressive stat considering that only 13 fillies have run in the last 12 years. [>
And, after all it is the race for the girls – Allabaculia, a filly, won the first running of the Classic.[>
[> Yesterday, Beckett gave the go-ahead for Look Here after she had appeared a doubtful runner when she injured herself last month. [>
“She went very well in her work this morning and we were very pleased with her,” said Beckett.[>
“It’s obviously a watching brief at this stage, but she seems to be over her problems and will definitely be confirmed for the Leger. “We will tick away quietly until the race – she is fit and we’re ready to race.”[>
Eddie Ahern, who replaces Seb Sanders, sidelined due to a broken leg, said: “I finished behind her in the Oaks Trial at Lingfield and she is a cracking filly.[>
“I went down on Tuesday morning to see her and it is a great opportunity for me to have a good chance in a Classic.”[>
Look Here has not raced since her Oaks victory back in June but fitness should not be a problem. Beckett, a former pupil of Martin Pipe, has become a trainer you respect. [>
The 37-year-old was taken back by his colleauges after Look Here won the Oaks.[>
“Mick Channon said ‘it pains me to say it, but you must be all right’.’’ [>
Look Here, currently trading at 5-1, has impeccable credentials.[>
Moonstone, who chased home Look Here in the Epsom Oaks, went on to take the Irish Oaks.[>
Before Look Here’s Oaks success, she beat Doctore Fremantle who has since run a blinder in the Derby, finishing fourth behind New Approach.[>
She has the most to fear from the Aidan O’Brien-trained Frozen Fire, the 5-2 favourite.[>
O’Brien has a good record in the race – three victories – but he looks an under achiever compared to John Scott. He took the prize 16 times.[>
Frozen Fire booked his ticket after an impressive victory in the Irish Derby.[>
Unsung Heroine, the only other filly in the race, has to be considered.[>
She is unbeaten in two starts and he credentials are looking good but she could lack the punch of the Beckett filly.[>
Murtagh is significant booking for Henry[>
JOHNNY MURTAGH has deserted Duke Of Marmalade in favour of Henrythenavigator in today’s Prix du Moulin at Longchamp.[>
His decision arouses doubts about Duke Of Marmalade’s participation in today’s Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown where he is set to renew rivalry with New Approach.[>
Aidan O’ Brien, who trains both colts, has cast doubts about pair running due to the soft ground.[>
Seamus Heffernan is on standby for Duke Of Marmalade but a further problem is added – Leopardstown has to survive a morning inspection. [>
But ground conditions have improved in France and it looks like Murtagh will be on the winner. [>
