REAL HIT BACK IN TUG-OF-WAR OVER ROBINHO

HIGH AND DRY: Robibho

Saturday August 30,2008

By Nigel Clarke

Chelsea’s £32million deal for Real Madrid striker Robinho is in danger of collapse.

Brilliant Brazilian Robinho trained with Spanish club Real yesterday when it was expected he would be putting the finishing touches to his on-off move to Chelsea.

Madrid are angry that a picture of Robinho’s shirt was posted on Chelsea’s website – as revealed in the Daily Express – before the deal had officially gone through.

Real want him to apologise to their fans, and have stated that he will remain their player for the next two years. Manager Bernd Schuster yesterday claimed he could not sanction the deal and threatened to walk out if the transfer went on over his head.

Madrid, and club president Ramon Calderon, are also offended at Chelsea’s arrogance in presuming the deal had been settled at a time when Real are still holding out for a fee nearer £40m. Robinho has constantly stated his wish to join Chelsea and manager Luiz Felipe Scolari said: “I don’t know about Robinho.

“Up until lunch time Peter Kenyon hadn’t called me. Is it a blow if we don’t get him? If he doesn’t come, he doesn’t come.  If he’s not here I have my other players. If Peter doesn’t buy him I have 23 others who are here.

“I have players for that position, no problem.”

It would appear that Scolari is already making other plans for life without Robinho, whose transfer has become a public tug-of-war.

He added: “In January maybe I will have more players. In the future maybe we will change one or two.

“It is not my job to talk about them; that’s for the board to do. My job is on the pitch, and now I am only thinking about Spurs.”
