The former drug addict kicked her bad habit in her early 20s, with help from former boyfriend Eric Clapton and Narcotics Anonymous.

But Davina, 40 – who married Pet Rescue host Matthew Robertson in 2000 – admits she must stay away not just from drink and drugs but anything potentially addictive, from diet cola to casinos.

“My husband once took me to a casino in Los Angeles,” she says. “He’s one of those people who can take out $100 and make $5 bets – I just can’t do that. After two bets I was begging him, ‘Just put $50
on red’.

“And he said, ‘This is ugly, we’ve got to get out of here!’”

Davina adds: “If you give me a line of coke now, you’d be horrified by the person I’d become.

“I’d be hassling you for more, then I’d suggest we went off and got a gram, then I’d want another gram and then I’d be secretly buying more and hiding it from you.

“And people often say they can’t believe that anyone could abandon their children but that’s what drug addiction does for you.”
