KAUNAS boss Jose Couceiro last night joked he’s not Jesus Christ, but insisted his side will perform a miracle against Rangers.

The Lithuanian outfit sealed their passage to the second qualifying round with a 7-2 aggregate win over Santa Coloma.

New manager Couceiro, who was only appointed last week, slammed his players’ second leg performance against the nine-man Andorran minnows, even though they won 3-1.

But he is adamant Kaunas can pull off a ’miracle’ victory against Walter Smith’s Rangers.

Couceiro said: "I am not Jesus Christ, but I believe miracles can happen and I promise we will be ready for Rangers.

"We had a good result against Santa Coloma, but I was not satisfied with the quality of our performance.

"I have only been with the team for four or five days. "We seemed to be doing well in training but come the game we saw problems. "The players were not good enough moving off the ball and while controlling it you could see some technical problems."

Rangers take on Kaunas at Ibrox on July 30 before making the trip to the Baltics a week later for the return leg.

And Couceiro confirmed he has already begun doing his homework on the Ibrox men.

The former FC Porto boss added: "Rangers have a very strong team and it will be extremely difficult for us.

"They are especially dangerous from set pieces. I watched them play against Sporting Lisbon last season in the UEFA Cup and they performed very well.

"But, over the next week in training, we will do a serious amount of work on set-pieces and we will look at trying to limit their threat."
