THE hated European Treaty suffered a fresh blow yesterday when Poland’s president said he would not sign it.

Lech Kaczynski said the Irish “no” vote had sunk plans for Brussels to have even more power over foreign policy, social affairs and border controls in the 27 EU countries.

He added: “For the time being the question of the Treaty is pointless.”

His comments are a blow to French president Nicolas Sarkozy, coming just hours after he started his six-month term chairing the EU.

But his words were warmly greeted by the Tories.

Shadow Foreign Minister Mark Francois said: “President Kaczynski’s courage and leadership in speaking out are a stark contrast to Gordon Brown’s complete lack of either.

“Mr Brown has rammed this Treaty through to put pressure on the Irish without any democratic mandate from the British people.

“It would be totally undemocratic if the Irish were made to vote twice before the British got to vote once.”

The EU treaty should be scrapped for this one and only reason.
Because we, the British public, were promised a vote in a referendum but never got one.
To me, regardless of whether the treaty is good for us or not, the lack of the vote makes the treaty null and void.
The people who are voted in to lead the country are done so on the basis of being the voice of the people. Not to lead us without giving us the choice.

with regards to this article in my opinion and I dont think that I am alone in thinking this. The European Union has just become a jobs club, that is jobs for the boys and girls, politicians who have long had their day in Westminster and the other parliaments around Europe. An overburdening expense that the taxpayers of our country can no longer afford, a weakening of our judicial system that we can also no longer afford. Yes the european union should be scrapped and the money that we, the taxpayers pay should be directed into what we should be paying for. OUR OWN COUNTRY.

Yes, the EU Con-Treaty should be scrapped but I have totally lost faith in our unelected traitorous "leader"; Gormless Mc Clown.

This unelected control freak has walked all over us and entered into a treaty that the vast majority of us do not want and do not support.

The traitor Brown is not taking the country with him.
