DARING OR DEMURE?

Lorraine Kelly

Friday December 7,2007

By Hannah Sandling

The one thing you can say about Lorraine Kelly is that she knows how to celebrate her femininity and she understands what being a woman is all about.

When she turned up at the National Portrait Gallery in Scotland earlier this week, wearing a

plunging black dress, she showed off her prominent assets to perfection. And the first thing that struck me was how confident and sexy she looked.

She might be 48 years old but in that dress she made sure all eyes were on her. And quite rightly. When you look as good as she does there’s no reason to cover-up.

When it comes to showing off your cleavage I don’t think age or bust size should be a barrier. Hitting 35 doesn’t mean you should hide your breasts away.

Look at Barbara Windsor – she’s 70 years old but still knows how to flaunt it. I know plenty of women in their 70s who dress sexily. They may not display as much decolletage as they used to but they still know how to make the most of what they’ve got.

A woman’s breasts are powerful tools and she should proudly display them whenever she can.

But it has to be done appropriately and tastefully. There’s nothing worse than seeing someone who lets it all hang out. Having your legs, cleavage and midriff on show is a real no-no as it looks tarty.

Someone like Kate Garraway isn’t afraid to take risks but I can’t help thinking she looks better with more on, while Nigella Lawson is so alluring that she hardly needs to show off her assets – they’re pretty obvious anyway so a slightly more demure look does her no harm at all.

Of course one can go a little too far. Emily Maitlis has clearly learnt to her cost that when you step away from the news desk, you better make sure everything is, well, in its place.

One thing I’ve learnt is that if you want to achieve the best possible cleavage you need to invest in a great support bra which will give you nice, pert breasts that will keep them where they’re meant to be. Good underwear is the secret to making outerwear look good.

Do this and chances are you’ll receive as many admiring glances as Lorraine did.
