John Inman

Saturday March 24,2007

By Elisa Roche

VETERAN stars of the small screen wept as they bid a final farewell to John Inman yesterday.

Mourners at his funeral included  his former co-stars Wendy Richard, 63, Trevor Bannister, 70, and Frank Thornton, 86. Among other celebrities were Danny La Rue, 79, Barbara Windsor, 69, and Katie Boyle, 80.

Inman, who will always be known for his role as Mr Humphries in sitcom Are You Being Served?, died this month aged 71. The  funeral, at Golders Green crematorium, London, was organised by his civil partner Ron Lynch.

While many fought back tears, EastEnders star Barbara Windsor tried her best to remember her friend with a smile. “It’s a sad day but we’ve all given him a good send-off,” she said.

“John was  one of the loveliest and  sweetest men in our business.

“I was very lucky to know him for over 30 years.”
