Pop artist Gerald Laing's War Paintings touch on the torture that took place inside Abu Ghraib prison during the conflict.

Others, such as In Truth Or Consequences, criticise UK Prime Minister Tony Blair's foreign policy.

With the exception of In Truth Or Consequences, the show will be the first time the work is on display in London, after being seen in New York, Paris, Edinburgh and other cities.

Other paintings touch on the assassination of John F Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

Laing, now 71, was an officer in the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers before attending St Martin's School of Art in London in the 60s.

He then spent most of the decade in New York, closely associated with artists like Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol.

Laing has lived in Scotland for more than 30 years.

The show at StolenSpace, the Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, east London, opens on September 28.
