RECORD £120M LOTTERY TICKET UP FOR GRABS

Thursday November 16,2006

By Catherine Boyle

ONE lucky Briton could scoop £120million in the world's biggest single lottery payout tomorrow.

The prize is up for grabs on the EuroMillions game which has gone 12 weeks without being won.

Under lottery rules, the money has to be given away this week.

If no one matches all the numbers for the jackpot then the cash will be handed out among the next prize tier down.

Camelot, operator of the UK's National Lottery, is predicting a 650 per cent surge in ticket sales over the next two days.

More than 2.5million EuroMillions tickets are expected to be sold in the UK as the draw deadline approaches tomorrow – that's over 700 a second.

EuroMillions is the world's largest lottery game based on the total population eligible to play. As well as Britain, it runs in eight other European countries. The odds of hitting the jackpot are 76million to one.

If no player matches all five main numbers, plus the two Lucky Star numbers, then the money will be distributed among those who got five main numbers plus one Lucky Star – with slightly better odds of 5.5million to one.

There was a EuroMillions jackpot of £125million this year but it was shared between three people – one in Portugal and two in France.

Banking a £120million jackpot would earn interest of £14,800 a day.
