JOAN BAEZ: DAY AFTER TOMORROW (PROPER) ***
Thursday September 4,2008 By Robert SpellmanAt 67, Baez’s voice retains its coffee house intensity. But it’s difficult to listen to her sharp, righteous tone without connecting it to the hurt young woman that Bob Dylan dumped. Nevertheless it’s a fine instrument – prayer-like and sensual. Guided by producer Steve Earle, Joan places some favourite compositions by Tom Waits, Elvis Costello and Earle himself within vivid acoustic settings.
