Location:CL THERE ARE NO POLO NEWS IN THE BRITISH PRESS
Published: Wednesday May 23,2007 by wetzvonplanken
II am a great fan of polo, and I play polo every year. I find very strange that few articles are being published in London about polo games. Polo is one of the most spectacular sports that we can see, the British season will start soon from June to September, lots of polo players from all countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, South Africa, Malaysia, Mexico, the Gulf states, the USA and others) will converge to the UK and play different tournaments, including the Cartier Cup, the Prince of Wales Cup, the Queen's Cup and others. England had introduced polo in the West during the XIX Century. Were Britons who exported polo to Argentina, the country that has the best players in the world now? But this does not mean that British players are not good. They need more press and more public. Polo became a very popular sport in many countries, as an example during the final of the Argentine open almost 40 thousand people gathered in Palermo Park, Buenos Aires, to watch the games. I will encourage papers like the Daily Express and others to give more support to this wonderful sport. The legend that it is only for royals and extremely wealthy people is over, many players are professionals, and they are sponsor by companies or individuals who want to promote the sport in England. It is a pity that the country, which was the first one in the West where people started playing polo, is not giving any importance to this beautiful game.
